Listing Details
The project has helped to promote Income Generation Activities (IGAs) through capacity building (Best Agronomy Practise (BAP) and training on the local production of organic fertilizer), Skills acquisition, cash disbursements and SILC formation to boost savings. All these are perceived to have also improved the living standard of PoCs as they can now source their own funds to take care of their families.
The project also considered gender integration by also training women on skills that are mostly men dominated e.g. Carpentry, and shoe making, while also providing them with start-up kits.
Women, girls and persons with special needs were given priority during the beneficiary targeting and selection and were also included in the community planning and implementation committee so that their voices will be heard. Caritas Nigeria also coordinated with some protection partners on the field to provide livelihood assistance to survivors of SGBV and women who are expose to limited livelihood assistance in their community.
There was self-sustainability in the livelihood intervention amongst the PoCs who are currently involved in agriculture, skills acquisition and other income generating activities such as SILC and Business Start Up. This can still be driven by the cohesion built among people and their true understanding of the high value they have on having a self means of livelihood.
From the monitoring and follow-up conducted there was a significant increase in yield of crops grown by the beneficiaries in last year compared to the previous years of farming and before the intervention. This was attributed to the approach of training PoCs on BAP, organic farming and providing them with farm inputs, link them also to extension agents.
Result of the monitoring visits showed that 32% of the persons of concern (320 PoC out of 1000 PoCs for cash grants) have started one form of businesses or the other in their respective communities to be able to meets certain needs of their household.
Persons of concern on skill acquisition has also shown that knowledge and training received during the skill acquisition training has helped them provide for their household.
