In a colourful ceremony that was organized to commemorate the International Day Of The Girl Child, 215 children (123 girls and 92 boys) taking shelter in host communities in Ogoja LGA were sensitized about their rights. With the month of October dedicated to the promotion of the rights and well-being of the girl child, Caritas Nigeria collaborated with the African Movement of Working Children and Youth (AMWCY), Hearts and Hands Humanitarian Foundation (H&HHF) Abuja, Mouvement Des Jeunes Pour le Reveil Et Le Development (MJRD) Cotonou, and Roche Forte Afrique to celebrate refugee children in Ogoja local government area (LGA) of Cross River State.
The children also presented a drama depicting the leadership potential of the girl child and the immense impact that women can make in society if given the right opportunities.
Items like exercise books, school bags, pens, water bottles, lunch boxes, organizational branded T-shirts, and sanitary pads were distributed to the young ones.
Other institutional stakeholders, like the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, were in attendance to give their support, too.
In Cross River State, Caritas Nigeria partners with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and UNHCR Nigeria, as well as other relevant stakeholders, to create equal access to systems that help displaced children in Ogoja to thrive.
