In a concerted effort to foster collaboration and devise strategies to combat gender-based violence (GBV), our field office in Enugu State recently engaged in a meeting with the State Human Rights Commission, with both organizations discussing key aspects of the campaign against the pervasive issue of Gender Based Violence in Nigeria.
Highlighting our strides in tackling the menace and promoting the dignity of every human person, especially survivors, our Gender Services focal person in the state, Edward Madu, disclosed that Caritas Nigeria, in addition to having avenues for reporting Gender-Based Violence incidents, provides adequate care and support services for survivors, including HIV testing, counseling, referrals and linkages to other services.
Madu also presented the Gender-Based Violence Flip Chart and our 16 days of activism branded t-shirts to the Commission. Receiving the items, the State Coordinator, Dr. Valentine Madubuko, acknowledged the need to leverage media platforms to educate the public on the different forms of Gender Based Violence, channels for reporting cases, and available support systems while holding perpetrators accountable.
